[Comments] (3) : I guess today is Patent Madness Day. Incited by Sumana I searched the patent database for swear words and other phrases likely to turn up funny parts of patents. The former was fruitless except for funny puerile OCR errors (notable exception). The latter worked out well.

Strangely, "they mocked me" and "i'll show them all" never show up in patent applications. Ahmed El Dessouky does point out, sensibly, that "it would be impractical to show them all."

"Ridiculous" got a bunch of good results. A sample of my findings:

It would be overkill to show them all. Patent applications need only show persons having ordinary skill in the art.

The naughty stuff is under nondescript names such as "Sybian."

Also I searched the patent database the other day and found out that the Woz invented a universal remote control back around 1990.

I remember reading about that! There was some contemporaneous review that said something like "If you're an electronics whiz who has a dozen remote-controllable devices in his living room, this is worth the $90. Unfortunately, that only describes Steve Wozniak, and he invented it."

I should clarify that I remember reading about that fairly recently, as part of Future Stuff research or Mallory research or something.
