[Comments] (7) Let them eat cake: I have been taking a cake decorating class from Michael's every week for the past 3 weeks. I have one more class left and then I graduate course 1. I can't believe I did this, but I offered to make David and Ashley's wedding cake in 6 weeks. I hope they are satisfied with what little knowledge I have for making wedding cakes. By that time I will be almost done with course 2 in the Wilton cake decorating courses. I don't think it is as hard as it looks, but it is definitely time consuming. And I won't be able to go to Schlitterbahn with everyone the day before the wedding.

I remember going shopping for wedding cakes when I was engaged and I was very discouraged when the cost of a wedding cake was a large chunk out of my small budget. Not only was it several hundred dollars for the cake, but the estimates didn't even come close to feeding the amount of people we were inviting. Luckily, there was someone in my ward that made a beautiful cake that was inexpensive.

This is what I am hoping for David and Ashley...for them to get a beautiful cake that is inexpensive. Am I crazy??? YES!

Hey Kristen
I made my sisters wedding cake on the same principles. I did not, however, take the Wilton class. I took the Sue Ann Workman Cake decorating 101. My Mom in law is amazing, she can really do anything. Anyway, I made a german chocolate cake with white smooth frosting and pink stipling all over it. It had a thick black ribbon around the base of each layer and some pink gerber daisies to accent (pink and black were my sister's colors). Anyway, after that experience I made the same cake (but white on white) for someone in my ward. I hope my kids like this kind of cake, because it's the only one I can make.

You, however, with the Wilton course under your belt will be able to make Lily any kind of cake she dreams of!

Good luck!

Good luck. I only had the picture-esque nibble of cake at our wedding. Our cake was relatively cheap, and the guy just stuck daisies from Vons on it. But I thought it still looked nice. I'm sure you'll do a great job.

Betina, I have heard about Sue Ann the highness in all things culinary. I am sure she teaching you is worth a dozen Wilton classes.

Kristen-
I had no idea you were learning how to decorate cakes...that's so awesome! Are you taking the class with your mom or anyone? I'm excited to eat your cake you're making for Erin's shower...now I know why you offered!!! YUM YUM! I bet it will be so cute!

Actually, I got so stressed out that I asked my mom to make the cake. I still made the fruit pizza and eclair (Susie's recipe). She is taking the classes with me, but she missed one. Her cake is cute, but not awesome. I can say that because I was standing right by her as she was doing it, and she was just playing around with it. But it will be edible.

Anne told me you made the eclair cake when I talked to her today - yum! Fruit pizza is also yum...

MMMM Fruit pizza. I have not had one in a while, what a yummy idea, esp at 1am!
