Furnishings of the Grand Salon in the Renwick Gallery of the National Collection of Fine Arts, Smithsonian Institution, evoke the taste for extravagance in the United States between 1860 and 1875. During this period, the building was completed as the first art museum in Washington, D.C. Today, the Renwick Gallery exhibits the creative achievements of American designers and craftsmen, past and present.
