We sure saw lots of volcanoes on this trip. The Sulphur Works were quite interesting in Carson.
The Big Umbrella, or Mushroom, seen from Anderson, 50 miles distant. On May 22, 1915, after 3 days of mounting pressure, a column of vapor and dust rose more than 5 miles into the sky. This most spectacular of Lassen's individual eruptions was widely publicized as the "Mushroom Cloud" or "Great Hot Blast." Meyers Photo.
Hey, that's terrifying.
