# 08 Nov 2006, 12:15AM: An Election Night Thought: Let me just say, Leonard and I agree that what happened this election cycle (most obviously, the Democrats retaking the House of Representatives) would not have happened without the leadership of Howard Dean at the DNC. He made sure that every state had a functional Democratic Party. For reference: Matt Bai's "The Inside Agitator." Dean had the patience, the will, and the stubbornness to nurture his 50-state strategy, looking beyond the urgent to the important, and that's reaping its rewards right now.
