Roy's Postcards: 1983/09/06

Inscription:

Rob Ogden and I drove up to the Griffith Observatory parking lot and took the trail north from there up to the top of Mt. Hollywood. It was somewhat steep - especially on the "shortcuts". The view was most interesting with the fog in the canyons and being above the smog.

Postcard back:

MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS
Artist: Hugo Ballin
Griffith Observatory
Los Angeles, California

First is a Greek geometer, whose work derived from the Egyptians. Their influence is shown by the god Thoth, behind. An Arab points out the important mathematical contributions of his culture. Sir Isaac Newton, originator of calculus, talks with students on the right.

Leonard's comments:

Thoth seeks to posess the Amulet, and with it to gain deserved ascendance over other gods.
