When I have one link to share, it goes on del.icio.us. When I have a lot of links, it goes into NYCB.
- Susanna tells the story of Easter to Maggie using plastic eggs containing mnemonic devices. "Again, they thought they were making fun of Him, they didn’t realize that He really was the King of the Jews!"
- Weblog of Studio Ghibli fan art, including the Snowtoro.
- "unpaper is a post-processing tool for scanned sheets of paper, especially for book pages that have been scanned from previously created photocopies."
- Robbins Barstow's old home movies are awesome. I got two days of jogging-in-place excitement out of "Family Camping Through 48 States". The Disneyland movie caused my favorite Cory Doctorow sentence of all time: "The humor is pure 'dad' -- loving and corny and just right."
- Retro Core can't replace Chrontendo (condolences to the Chrontendo creator, who was recently laid off on the same day and from the same company as his wife), but it does have more of a focus on games that are good.
- The Soviet Lunokhod rover looks like a movie prop, but it really went to the moon, it's still there, and now we have satellites taking pictures of it.
- I still haven't had time to read the World Question Center question for 2010, "How is the Internet changing the way you think?" I blame the Internet.
- Also haven't gotten into this primer on meditation that Adam K. sent me.
- This New York eating guide is a great summary of the city. It gets idiosyncratic at the end (not a bad thing), but I love the way it starts; getting the New York staples out of the way in a separate list, and then hitting the out-of-towner with less-known staples like the marshmallow milkshake that will make you seem "in the know".
- Things I haven't looked at, web tech edition: OAuth WRAP and HTTP Extensions for Account Management and Session Identification.
- Recently Lucian showed me Alex Temple's super-eclectic, occasionally chiptune-ish music, and more recently I met him and we talked about how lots of songs are about nothing but the genre of song they're in.
- Recently I learned the word "Shanzhai"[0] as a descriptor for crazy indie off-brand consumer electronics of the kind reviewed by Stuart Ashen. There's an English-language shanzhai weblog, but it focuses mostly on phones (ie. the things that make money), which I find a little dull.
And I still have a bunch of stuff in my browser tabs.
[0] I don't usually link to Wikipedia to explain concepts, but the "Shanzhai" entry hasn't been buffed to the personality-free NPOV sheen typical of Wikipedia entries for things like "Forest" and "Giant (mythology)", and itself somehow seems like a good example of the shanzhai spirit, insofar as I understand it.
