I was able to buy a pint of half-and-half (for ice cream) for less than the price of a pint of milk. Why? The ingredients list for the half-and-half: "Milk, cream". Are they using really cheap cream that's cheaper than milk?

When I was young, whole milk was more expensive than skim milk. But that is no longer true, maybe because skim milk has become more popular. Ah... it just means cheaper fat for the rest of us!

Skim milk is cheaper than regular milk in Utah. I bought some whipping cream the other day for about 25 cents, but I used a coupon.

I think the reason skim milk is cheaper than regular milk is that they actually skim all the milk and then add fat back to it to make the other kinds. Just like they make brown sugar by adding molasses back to white sugar.

Skim milk is cheaper than regular milk in the UK, too. I always fgured it was becuase they could use the fat to make other things, like butter & cream.
