Sun Dec 27 2009 22:56 Nostalgiathon 2009: Best of Links January-June:
Sorry to post so much stuff today, but I realized I'd better start putting up the end-of-year link posts, or else I might have to post some of them next year, which doesn't make any sense. Because I spent so much time on the novel, I've generally got less 2009 stuff than 2008 stuff: fewer new weblogs subscribed to, fewer links gathered, fewer photos taken. So here we go with links (culled from my and Sumana's shared del.icio.us feed) from the first half of 2009.
- In retrospect, articles like this one on work in video games have had a big effect on the way my novel is turning out.
- A picture of Yorick bearing Hamlet on his back, as per the speech.
- Stephen Colbert's favorite dinosaur. Bonus: his favorite attitude towards dinosaur research.
- Kris's best horror story, Candle Cove.
- I could link to Solar System Live and Your Sky every year. They are a boon to science fiction writers because they settle trivial astronomical details about the future (or past). You don't have to spend endless time trying to figure things out, or slap on a TK and hope that what you want to do with the solar system will work out.
- Hello. I'm pictures of Seth David Schoen.
- Gerald Ford, male model.
- A stab at a science fictional universe that has all the fun of Star Trek with the added fun that comes from not being incredibly unrealistic.
- If you read only one piece of Calvin and Hobbes fanfic this year, chances are good it was this one.
- Prismatic Sphere: The Cake. (For more equine fun, see Yoshi: The Horse.)
- Apuleius's The Golden Ass was a big disappointment (my LibraryThing review: "[T]he Isis mystery cult is 1500 years dead and it's still proselytizing me!"), but I was intrigued by its slander of the cult of The Syrian Goddess.
