News You Can Bruise for 2012 October 2

I meant to do one of these last year but the news hook slipped away. Not this year! Check out some of the cool stuff I saw at Maker Faire. Some of it is stuff you can buy, but most is above your crass commercialism:

• Adam Matta turned Bicycle Wheel into a tape player.
• Eavesmade laser-etches coasters and "non-denominational festive ornaments" in a series called "Heroes of Science".
• Shane Hope's ugly but cool 3D printer glitch art.
• Francesca Berrini's Unusual Cards, a returning favorite from last year.
• Pancake Bot, a 2D printer for pancakes.
• Sideshow Soap makes weird-smelling soap.
• Rebecca Strauss's alien contact simulator Touched.
• And one bonus thing I'm not mentioning because I might buy it for a present for Sumana.
