Roy's Postcards: 1983/05/19


Daddy, Susanna and I took Mommy and Rachel to Los Angeles Airport today so they could go on an airplane to Salt Lake City to see Grandpa Whitney get married tomorrow in the Salt Lake Temple. We saw lots of great big airplanes.

Postcard back:

The new 350 to 490 passenger Boeing 747 superjet is the largest ever designed for commercial service. The four powerful Pratt & Whitney JT9D turbofan engines enables the 747 to operate from any airfield which can accommodate present jet transports. It has a cruising speed of 625 MPH at an altitude of 45,000 feet and range up to 6,000 miles. The 747 is 231 feet long, wingspan of 195 feet and tais is 62 feet high.
