Roy's Postcards: 1987/11/27
Visited with Frances, Leonard, Susanna, Rachel, Robert, Sandi, Michael, Shelly, and Bryan Whitney.
Eight-foot-high head reveals the titanic sculpture of the ancient Olmec civilization in Middle America. Matthew W. Stirling, leader of National geographic-Smithsonian Expeditions from 1938 through 1946, uncovered 11 stone heads in the vicinity of La Venta, Tabasco, Mexico. National Geographic Society's Explorers Hall displays the cast.
When I first saw this postcard I thought the picture was taken in a motel lobby.
