No Day But Today for 2005 August

(2) Sat Aug 13 2005 01:55 On the road again...: We just got back from a family vacation to Yellowstone. It really is such an interesting place...no where quite like it in the world. We even saw a wolf which was rare and cool. It is good to be back home, in touch with the real world though. and it is great to be hanging out with my wonderful friends. We have far to good of a time being rediculous!

(4) Sun Aug 14 2005 18:29 a little vintage: I spent all day yesterday combing SLC's vintage and retro stores. It was a blast and I found quite a few cool pieces of furniture and ideas that I wanted. Best of all was a tall standing freezer from the 40's. I fell in love with it and the stove, but alas I am bedroom furniture shopping and broke. I am heading for a mid 1940's/WWII look. All I ended up with is a nightstand, but now all I need is a small desk. It was fun. I spent the evening with some friends from USU. We went to dinner at The desert pub in trolley square, and then went to park city to roam around. It was nice to visit with them. p.s. I found a new saying for life, on a magnet..."waiting for the right guy, meanwhile having a great time with the wrong ones." love it!

(4) Wed Aug 17 2005 13:30 a game of CLUE anyone...: I love Clue, and collect the board game...I have many different ones, the original, 50th anniversary, Simpson's Clue, the newer versions since the original, the movie version, Museum Caper Clue, Master Detective Clue, etc... So at DI I found a brand new, $1.50, verion of Clue...Alfred Hitchcock addition, so Bates motel is a place, and there is a bird as a weapon. I was pretty darn excited.

(3) Sun Aug 21 2005 01:02 cross the line...: Today I had Fall Leadership training for Utah State. Fall leadership is a time where we make people stretch themselves, examine, and re-examine their values, beliefs, and attitudes, as they discover things about themselves and people around them. One game we have to do this with is called cross the line. It is one of my favorite activities becasue it reminds me what I have experienced/believe in, while teaching me how diverse Utah State really is, and that other people have had interesting/hard experiences in their lives too. WHat you do is all stand silently on one side of the room, and we will ask a question such as, "Do you have a family member, or friend who has used drugs/been exsposed to pornography/are you atheist or agnostic, etc...? Then if you have and you feel comfortable exposing that part of yourself, you cross the room, face everyone else and walk back. One question that was asked today was, "If you consider yourself a person of color, cross the line." Everyone in the room was White, and thus no one crossed the room. After we moved on to the next question, I was bothered because I wished I had crossed the room. I am not sure why I didn't cross the room. Maybe I was afraid that someone would be offended, or that when we play with the whole group and I crossed the line with the Latino's, Black's, Indian's... they would be offended. But I am not transparent. I have color too. So rightly I should be able to consider myself to be a person of color. I think culture, not color is what is really important anyway. When we do the activity as a large group next week, I think I just might cross the line when that question is asked. I don't know...I would be interested to hear others opinions on the matter...would you cross the line?

I am on the diversity committee this year for Utah State and I know topics like these will be addressed. I am excited for an interesting year.

(1) Sun Aug 21 2005 23:30 Ole Ole Ole Ole REAL...: I spent the evening yesterday with a friend whom I have been really good friends with for 20 years this year. Isn't that crazy! I couldn't believe it. Audrey and her husband Ryan are moving to the Riverside, CA area, becasue he is getting his PhD in BioChemistry there. I will miss them a lot, but it is an awesome opportunity for them. FOr our last night we went to the Real SL soccer game. It was awesome, no we did not win (0-1) but I adore soccer and haven't been to a real game in some time. Soccer games was how I spent the majority of my Senior year in high school, and I didn't realize how much I have missed that atmosphere. Then we went to our favorite IceCream joint...Leatherby's creamry. We split a Traci's peanut butter cup, which is a lot of vanilla icecream, hot fudge, and melted peanut butter. it is wonderful. We spent the night reminiscing, and thinking about old friends and enemies...people who have died, gotten married, gotten divorced, had kids...we have only been out of high school for 4 years, and it is amazing how different life is, but how some people can still make you angry, sad, uncomfortable, etc...

(3) Wed Aug 24 2005 12:03 procrastination habit: So I am supposed to move today...actually I was supposed to move an hour ago, but here I am and all I have packed is my lotion. lol, and I realized that I own most Vicotoria secret lotion flavors. it is rediculous. ANyway like I said I love to procrastinate...my personality functions better under pressure anyway, that is the trauma junkie coming out I guess. But alas I really should go pack something. I guess i just don't worry cause most of my stuff is already up at school, and it is only an hour and a half drive...I can always come back a nd pick stuff up if I don't pack it. I need to work on this habit.

Mon Aug 29 2005 17:01 Let's get it started...: Well I have offically survived my first day of class. I had 2 classes today, one at 1:30 (Pearl of Great Price institute) and one at 2:30 (Law and Politics). The law and politics class is going to be interesting and is going to kick my trash, because it is all legal writing, and I really don't like writing anyway. oh well, welcome to real life I guess. Fall Leadership was amazing. The main messages were to measure your life in love, and that all there is between you and me is air. The good Reverend France Davis, of the calvary Baptist Church in SL, was our guest speaker, and really is one of the most dynamic speakers I have ever heard. He has a great love for knowledge, and is extremely well read. We also adopted the FISH philosophy from Pike Fish Market in Seattle... play, be there, make their day, and choose your attitude. The conference was overall a good reminder to remember who you are, and strive to make a difference as you have an open mind and love for all people. I loved it. The end up this first week of school my good friend Toni and I are heading to SanFrancisco on a quick 2 day trip. We are staying with Leonard, who so graciously invited us, and we are going to the Yankee's vs. A's baseball game...it is toni's thing, she is a Yankee's nut, but I am excited because I love all night road trips.
