I keep forgetting I'm not in england anymore.
I keep forgetting I'm not in england anymore.
Tonight: French movie for extra credit, EAP returnee panel, food shopping (or maybe I can get by one more day) and STUDY!!
I don't think I've switched the time stamp back from England yet... I know Leonard sent me an email about it, and I think I still have it, but I'm lazy, so you can just subtract 8 hours.. thats not a problem is it?
There was even a sentence on Amazon.com: "Dumbledore lowered his hands and surveyed Harry through his half-moon glasses. 'It is time,' he said 'for me to tell you what I should have told you five years ago, Harry. Please sit down. I am going to tell you everything.'
How exciting! I wonder what it is...
I've been feeling a but under the weather, so maybe I will take a nap before going to rehearsal later tonite. I know, I can write my valentines in bed!!
Good Movie: how to lose a guy in ten days.
I went to dinner for 12 strangers, which is this alumni association thingy, and that was really fun.
I remember the last book I ordered from barnesandnoble.com. It was for a class, and it was taking forever to be shipped, too. So I decided to just cancel it and not read the book, which worked out fine, but I really want THIS book!
Maybe its karma for the bitchy email I wrote canceling the last book. They kept it and said "if this girl ever orders another book, we'll wait a YEAR to send it to her! *evil laugh*". That sounds like something I'd do. Or atleast something I'd think of doing, then forget about. I hope they've forgetten, its been over a year, for heaven's sake!!
The Riverside equivalent of Jennie's frat is socializing with the UCLA version in the living room right now. I went out to get pasta salad (that my fabulous mommy made for me this weekend) and when Jennie introduced me she mentioned that I had just transferred from Riverside, and I got a round of high fives for "getting out of there". That should tell you something...
My book (which I ordered from Amazon.com) should be arriving this week. As early as tommorrow, actually, but I kinda hope that they wait til Thursday, because then I know my papers will be done. But really, I want it tommorrow. I have decided that online shopping is an addictive and very bad thing!!
just 2 more papers... ugh.
Thu Mar 06 2003 13:27 Sarte??? Descartes????whahuh?:
Isn't it odd how when they're something you REALLY need to do all of a sudden you can think of 101 things you'd rather be doing.. and then proceed to DO them? *Rachel discovers unfathomable distractions of the internet* wheeeee!!!!!!
It's 1:30 pm in England right now. Suddenly everything is very funny.
Papers: still 2 (in progress!!! 3 1/2 hrs to go!!)
I think my favorite part of the day is my shower. I just *love* feeling clean. Really, there's nothing keeping me from taking 2 showers a day. Or more... hmmm.
I actually went to the library today to study. Didn't get much done, but atleast I was in a studious enviornment for a change. I did, however, discover that the library is an excellent setting for harmless flirting! (yes, Rachel, you *can* trust the cute boy across from you to watch you stuff while you run to the ladies!*) One the other hand, I made progress in getting out of classes for the future- yucky science ones!

Right! Time to put on my thinking cape and get to work! Mannerism to Baroque!!!
Ok, I'm coming out of my hole now. You all will be hearing from me soon!!!
Yeah, Bush is an idiot.
Thu Mar 20 2003 11:01 Ummmm....:
Sat Mar 22 2003 08:58 FINALS ARE OVER...OVER...yes, OVER!:
Tomorrow (well, today technically, but that's the beauty of my schedule this quarter) is the start of a new quarter. I don't feel quite ready, but I've decided it doesnt really matter.
I had a really nice break and although I didn't accomplish much besides sleeping (hey- that's something!) I got to hang out with friends, some of whom I had not seen in a very long time, and I even got started on my scrapbook. Started.
Chamber of Secrets comes out on Friday, wahooo!!!!
Mon Apr 28 2003 19:27 Back by popular demand:
Anyway, at this rate summer will be here before we know it! Bring it on!!!
And next week I have a midterm, yeech. And the first rehearsal for our Shakespeare scene. I'm Desdemona!! (sp?) and Jennie, fab roommie that she is, is Emelia! And Graydon, my ex-cousin, is Iago!! (Someone is Othello, too, but I don't know him yet.) Seems like I am always in the kissing scenes. AND it's Jennie's birthday this weekend. AND Happy May Day, everyone!! (Especially Amanda, wherever she may be). Time is going by much quicklyier than it ever has before.
Mon May 05 2003 07:13 Tonic and Basil's quest for goldfish!:
We picked out a variety of alias(es? aliai?) with the assistance of "The Bad Girl's Guide To The Party Life" and chose our favorite for ourselves, giving the fishies others, fitting: Amaretto and C. Buz. Don't worry, there's more where they came from, but I already decided the next fish I get I'm naming Snuffles. (10 points to the first person to guess where I get that from, but I bet it'll be Sumana.)
I can reccomend with enthusiasm strawberry with Reeses' cups from Coldstone.
It's another wild Saturday night, to make up for my bland Friday night yesterday (*ha- not*)I just got back from The Scottish Play (with the craziest witches I've even seen) and yummy Indian food. If you're looking for a good read, I recommend The Devil Wears Prada (thanks to Marisa and Tom's mum). I've just started and its hilarious!!
*goes insane*
The quarter system does wierd things to your life. You start, all of a sudden it's midterms, you have to much thorugh finals and before you know it it's over. So much for smelling the roses. No time to breathe
I may survive yet. Amazingly enough.
Tue Jun 10 2003 02:59 rachel r, grrll gynius:
After busting my butt to get my History final done on time, I turn it in 10 minutes early... to the wrong TA's box.
Whopppee!
Guess where I'll be 8 AM Friday. No, I won't be at the beach. Are you crazy? I wouldn't get up that early to go to the beach.
I still may survive yet. But, will I survive without getting kicked out of school? Find out on the next exciting episode of: rachel r, grrl gynius
Amaretto is still alive. He/ She/ It lookes a lot like Nemo(sp?).
It has occured to me that I will probably have my degree before Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (movie) comes out. Does that mean something? Probably not, just an observation.
"Free at last, I'm free at last, thank God Almighty, I'm free at last!" "Are you always like this?"
Does anyone need to live in LA this summer? Please let me know. We have space!!
Wed Jun 18 2003 05:02 Divination Homework:
Unfortunatley, my car was broken into and all my CDs were stolen. Fortunatley, I had yet to replace my emergency $20, which I believe I spent Taco Bell, so at least I'm not out $20. I am, however, sick of listening to Moulin Rogue (they didn't take the one in the CD player) so this is an public plea to all my fortunate friends with CD burners to make me CDs... I'm too poor to buy new ones. Thanks.
My fortune cookie said: Bravery and optimism are your best traits. A true Gryffindor. (3 more days. YIPEEE!!!)
Fri Jun 20 2003 01:09 24 Hours from now...:
Hi Michelle!
In case you were wondering, Harry Potter went wonderfully. In fact, I am still basking in the afterglow. Now go read it yourself.
Tue Jul 01 2003 07:11 Mrrrow!:
Disorganized and irresponsible. Will I ever change? Chances are.... no.
Well, I guess that's not true: I have been housesitting the cutest little doggie, who I am going to miss very much when her family comes home at 2 am tonight.
Mommy and I went to see a movie today--Freaky Friday. It was really cute. I wanna be in a rock band. Too bad I can't play. Or sing. Oh well.
Tue Sep 02 2003 23:03 From an email on essays:
Scrapbooking is fun. And it takes a lot of time. Everyday I look up and midnight and say "What? It was 5:00 ten minutes ago!"
I have to wonder how something bad gets published. I can write better than that... I think, but then how do you know? If my book was really bad, I think I'd rather not be published. Except that, she probably got at least some money for it. And I could do with some money.
One redeeming quality about the book is I bought it used from Amazon.com, so it only cost about $5, and most of that was S&H. Although...I could do with $5.
Wow, that's more math than I've done in a year. Unless you count mentally converting pounds to dollars (meh--I haven't *really* done that in over a year, so no, I guess it doesn't count) or subtracting 25% off.
Tonks has become a wild boy. He leaves early in the morning and comes home late at night (I sometimes wonder if he would come home at all if I didn't go outside before bed with the kitty treat box, calling him) and wanders the town all day and night. We're getting him fixed, so hopefully that will solve his behavioural impusles.
I have a Mary Kay thing tonight. Hopefully I'll make lots of money so I can pay Jennie back for the June bills. And maybe, you know, have more than $11 in my banking accounts. If not, at least I'll get rid of some samples.
Thu Sep 04 2003 13:31 eating a hot dog:
Hot dogs are good.
Fri Sep 05 2003 13:27 Hurrah! I'm back in!:
But then I went to look today, one the schedule of classes, and there was a lovely wait-list spot, which I snagged immediately. The only problem is the spot was in a discussion that conflicts with European Studies 101 (something I obviously need to take). This is easy to fix, though. I'll just... suck up. The point is, I'm in, and it's much easier to get a PTE number when you're in.
Yesterday I went fishing and cought some new fishies. One is white and Mom named him Coconut Sushi. The other is a tiny baby and I'm going to let Jennie name him, as a suprise. Unless she sees this before I get there, in which case she won't be suprised.
Wed Sep 10 2003 11:04 er...:
Off to work on more scrapbooking. I'm all caught up, except for the nearly finished roll in my camera (which I forgot to bring with me this weekend, grrr) so I'm working on a mini Europe scrapbook.
I used a coupon (sp?) from the paper to get my film developed at the one hour at Walgreens. I used some more coupons to buy useful stuff, like tape, travel size deodarant, and Hershey's bars for $.39. Wheee!
I miss my baby. How will I ever survive a school year with out him? he's only been gone since this morning, and I get to go pick him up tomorrow. He is no long a *real* man. Hope he's not mad.("Er... you didn't want that, did you?")
And then on Wednesday I'm going to LA. I get a terrible, wistful feeling everytime I think about where I was at this time last year.
I caught two new fish (and promised not to kill them). I named them Harry and Ginny. It's so cute, the way they cuddle together. Maybe they'll have babies.
Thu Sep 18 2003 19:35 Dilemas (sp?)...:
1. How old does dressing have to be before it spoils? Mine's... 9 months, maybe less. It tastes kinda funny. Should I toss it? I should, shouldn't I? Blast.
2. All the books for my ES 101 class are on the EU. I've got a bunch of EU books I paid bundles for over in the UK, and I dragged them all the way home. Will they do? I'll think I'll make them do. Rather than paying $75 for a new set of books.
3. My desk, chair set up is really bugging me. My forearms rest against the desk when I type, unless I keep them lifted which is quite tiring. I tried moving my laptop to the rolly-out key board thing, which was great except I was way to close to the computer, and my DSL cable didn't reach. I think the solution my be a higher chair. A swiveling, rolly one like my roommate's would be best. I even tried a kitchen chair, which was alright, but not great. The point is, I don't want to pay big bucks for a chair I'm going to use for a year. Maybe I'll steal one of the green ones from home. A rolly one would be nice, though. Oh well, there are things I'd rather have. Like world peace and an "A" in French. Lucky me, I won't be getting any of those.
Then again, I've stolen my roommate's chair and I'm using it right now, and the arm thing is still bugging me. Maybe I'm just neurotic (sp?).
Not that you care what I eat. Another thing you probably don't care about is I have a wish list at Amazon.com. Just thought I'd mention, you know, because my birthday's coming up. In six months. Well, you know, Christmas. And random pressies are always nice, too. There's only two items, but I really want them. Well, there might be three, but I really only want two.
I was quite productive today, I got my perscription, returned a book, walked all the way to the bookstore in Westwood to find out they didn't have the book I needed yet (but it was good excercise), made a budget... later I'm gong to the gym. I've made a deal with myself that if I 1. don't eat cheetos until finals and 2. go to the gym an average of three times a week, I'll buy those Express jeans I've been wanting with my Christmas money. And, they'll even fit!
But I want to ask, what's with the pirates? It's talk like a pirate day, and I've been invited to a pirate party (which I orginally misheard as "private party", needless to say I was confused when asked if I had any "private clothes"). It is all because of Pirates of the Carribean? But most guys I know have always had a thing for pirates. I remember how Chuck wanted so badly to be a chaperone at "Treasure Island" our Senior Prom, so he could dress up as a Pirate. Someone, please explain. Or not, that's fine, too. It's not really that important.
My mom emailed and offered to buy me a new chair. Really, though, it's not that bad. I think I really am just neurotic. Maybe I should look online to see if they're doing neuroticosity research, so maybe I can voluteer and get diagnosed and recieve up to 10 months free treatment*.
It occurs to me that most people don't derive the same amount of inspiration from fiction that I do. It's like on "You've Got Mail", how Meg Ryan says "Everything I see reminds me of something I read in a book, when shouldn't it be the other way around?" or something. But that's not really true. A lot of things remind me of London.
*Inspired by a flyer seen in the gym piddly diddly department. Obviously not really about neuroticosity.
Well, it's really quite easy when you live in a non-consumer society of one. How do you do that? Simply, don't buy anything. Ever. Except perhaps food, because otherwise you'd starve. And gas, to go visit your mommy.
This is my quarter survival plan. It should be easy enough, provided I don't leave the apt except to go to the gym. And class, once it starts. And work, if I get my job. And to visit my mommy and go grocery shopping.
It'd better go check on my frozen (?) tofu now, because I get eye strain if I'm at the computer for too long with out my glasses on. I've got revitalizing mask on instead.
Not only that, the frezer is so dirty the simple act of picking up my ziplock bag of frozen tofu got my hands all sticky and I had to wash them. I hope cooperative kitchen cleaning day comes soon. The problem with that, though, is that I, unlike any of my roommates, actually live here.
Sat Sep 20 2003 19:25 Not Otherwise Occupied:::::
1. Because I say.
2. It is obviously going to happen, whether you like it or not.
3. Two words: Lucky you. (Meaning there is no one else for Harry.)
4. Two more words: Furtive glance. (Meaning there is no one else for Ginny.)
For a more comprehensive list of reasons, please see the following books: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
It occurs to me that I might be just a little on the mad side(not upset, crazy). But that's ok, because if I'm on the mad side, then Georgia Nicholson is completely bonkers. And she has a Sex God for a boyfriend.
She, however, is a literary character, whereas I, unfortunatly, am not.
I'm very worried about my fish. Being pond fish, they do not realize there is food at the top of the tank. They simply remain stationary, furiously trying to eat non-exisitant pond scum. I have no idea how to train them to eat fish food. Perhaps if I get it to sink somehow... Or if I go to the botanical gardens and steal some pond scum to put in their tank. They don't even have energy to zip around anymore. (Although they still cuddle.) What if they die of starvation? What then? I'LL HAVE KILLED HARRY AND GINNY!
Wed Sep 24 2003 13:41 Zut, zut, et zut. Triple merde et sacre bloody bleu:
I have looked on the work-study webpage. I have no hope for a job. I have no skills. I will remain unemployed forever.
So, it is back to my non-consumer society of 3. (The fishies, still alive as yet, join me in saying hello to the outside world.)
With the assistance of my fabulous roommate Jennie, I have made the descison to throw out the frozen, yellow tofu. Goodbye, tofu.
Thu Sep 25 2003 13:26 Battered and abused:
I have learned my lesson re: taking wild animals out of the natural habitat. I am taking Harry and Ginny home tonight to re-release them back into the pond. Hopefully they survive the drive in their weakened state.
Thu Sep 25 2003 18:37 Sucess!:
I had a lovely time at home with Mommy and kitty. Jen and went to major league imrov and out to dinner, then had a heck of a time highlighting my hair. It was very painful. Painful? Yes, painful. Could have something to do with the fact that my hair is a mile long.
"You two are making the whole restaurant smell good."- Our waitress. "What does she mean?"-Me. "I don't know. She's crazy."-Jen.
What is more, I hate people.
I am taking my second ever Into to EU class. Whee! What is more, these ES people actually exsist. There are 15ish people in my class. I am not alone in my major! (As previously suspected.)
The good news is: I may get a job. It's quite likely, actually. Wheee! (Yes, Leonard, you CAN cash that check. I promise it won't bounce.)
rachnmi (1:07:41 AM): Oh, fabby, i am in love with writing
Here's to the new school year. Cheers.
PS I have already broken most of these guidelines.

Sun Oct 05 2003 21:52 420 words:
It's funny how long the days are when I have my 8 AM. It feels like a whole nother day now.
On the bright side, I'm not a girlfriend of a S.G. but I have found one of my school books to be relatively interesting enough to actually read. It's The Ebbing of European Ascendency by Sally Marks. That's an odd name, don't you think? I remarked to Jennie that you could probably tell my major just by looking at my bookshelf. Besides the aforementioned, there is: Sin and Syntax, Penguin Companion to the EU, Readings on the EU, From EC to EU, The Origins of Major War (just arrived!), The World Since 1945, The Government and Politics of the EU, The End of the European Era, and 501 French Verbs. And all that underlining was a lot of work, so appreciate it!
Just kidding, I know what they were thinking. It was actually a good idea at the time.
On the bright side, I got a 98 on my paper-let, so I guess I *do* know what I am talking about when it comes to the EU.
Wed Oct 08 2003 00:14 Vive la resistance!!:
rachnmi (11:51:08 PM): ooh, yes. we can dress in hippie gear and make signs and go to the cafe and sip coffee instead
rachnmi (11:51:32 PM): or sleep
rachnmi (12:00:35 AM): I'd go crazy if I was sane
crisbcreme (12:00:56 AM): i try to be of service there to you and others
Also, the International Insitiute, aka all the majors no one has ever heard of, is forming a Student Association (IISA. Very original). Among my sugestions were: parties, book club, movie nights, theme nights, cafe nights, and a mentor program. Gabby (our advisor): "You like parties, don't you?"
This weekend: Mom thinks the fish pond is gross, but I think it is a breeding ground for happy fishies. Still, though, I cleared out some of the pond scum. I looked for Harry and Ginny, but I didn't see any fish cuddeling. They may have been hiding in the remaining pond scum. Mom went outside and drilled holes in the ground to plant her bulbs (daffodils? tulips?) in. I said she should have just had me walk on the dirt with my heels on, but she said the holes wouldn't be big enough. Jen and I went shopping for magic pants, but we didn't find any. I did find a black skirt on sale for $6 at Express. And, yes, it IS different from all of my other black skirts from Express.
Mon Oct 13 2003 22:51 Rachel does homework... I love Politcial Science:
I'm not going to stress. I've got a PS paper due on Thurs, but that's not what I'm worried about. French paper next week. *Hides* I'm not even sure what the topis is, because she explained it in French, to give you an idea of how well I'm doing. Soemthing about... Our reaction to the style or something. Fabby. My reaction : "Huh? HUH??? @#$&%$%^&.... ZZZZZZZZ" Certainly not 4-5 Pages. Oh well. I only need a C.
On the bright side I finally remembered to ask Trang's boyfriend to open a jar of spagetti sauce that I've been wanting forever. Now there is lasagna baking for dinner (yum) and I had crumpet pizza for lunch. (Not quite the same as english muffin pizza--or as good--but will do in a pinch.)
Right. MUST write paper.
Tue Oct 14 2003 20:39 0 words:
I bought a bar of swiss hazelnut chocolate at Trader Joes on Sunday. It's almost gone. I wonder where it went?
Unplugging the DSL cable worked really well. I got quite a lot done before I scurried off to an IISA mtg. Now I'm almost done... unfortunately I may have to pull the plug again to finish.
I've decided its not the paper writing that I mind so much. (Except in French--every word is by the skin of my teeth.) It's the getting started that is difficult. Once again, though, I seem to have made most of it up when it is supposed to be based on readings. Maybe I can *trick* him into thinking I did it. He went to BYU, after all, and we know they aren't too bright! JUST KIDDING! *winks at mommy, susie, and john* I love you all!!!
Speaking of Susie, she showed me how to look up the stats on this lovely "blog", and here are some interesting tidbits: the most emphatic(exclaimation marks: 68) entry was on the day I went to see Chamber of Secrets. "Harry" is the 22nd most often used word. "Going" is the first. Followed by "really". I am REALLY GOING to go work on my paper now. Score!
I'm normal! I swear! Ginny.
Thanks, Sus, now I'll never get my paper done. *unplugs*
Ginny.
The explaination is simple. I know too much. I must purge my brain of excess knowledge. Perhaps I will do that this weekend.
Ok, so maybe the page about how the EU has improved our society today wasn't really necessary. Whatever.
Oh, nevermind. I fixed the margins (they were 1 1/2 inches... wonder how they got that way?) 6 1/2 pages. Perfect. I am a Political Science genius (yeah right).
The French paper has, btw, been postponed to the same day as the test, which is also the same day as another Poly Sci paper, and the day before an Econ midterm. Whee.
Number of people who have complimented my notebook so far: 5. But I'm sure many admire it from afar.
Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny.
Now I am going to read something non school for a change, though I probably really shouldn't.
*I've decided, per Marisa's advice, to start jogging vs. going to the gym (which wasn't working very well anyways, because I never went, because it was always too crowded when I did go). So, that is the story.
Marisa said something funny this morning that I said I was going to use as a quote, but now I can't remember what it was. Something about girls... liking boys, maybe. Or boys being dumb. I don't remember.
Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny.
Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny Ginny
The ironic thing is, "Potter" is the 50th word on my top words list, so by adding "Ginny" I'll be knocking "Potter" off. Oh, now I have to type "Ginny" two more times to counteract the additional "Potter"s. Ahh!!
Ginny Ginny Ginny.
It's funny, isn't it, how the most random things can be sooo amusing when you have more necessary things to be doing? At least I'm not signed onto IM. Susie says I'm getting "whacked out" or something. You can blame school for that.
But I need the internet for my project, so I can't *unplug*. I'll never get done....
Sun Oct 19 2003 22:49 Putting curlers in my hair:
*Is that even a word? Do I even care?
Unlike Sumana, I have not yet seen Bend it Like Beckham. Those of you who know me well understand how great a travesty this is.
I just realized I may have made a tragic mistake. Yesterday or so I ordered the fourth Georgia Nicholson book, Dancing in my Nuddy Pants, which means that it will be arriving in a week or so. Perhaps I should ask Jennie to hide it until Wednesday post-midterm.
It's amazing how many entires there are in my weblog when I have other things I need to be doing. Right. Supply and Demand!
I'm soo sore from running yesterday, I can barely walk. Unfortunately, I still have to go again today. *Moans* It will have to be a short one. And, it's hot out.
Tue Oct 21 2003 13:20 My brother is a genius:
Speaking on my brother, he thinks I'm nuts, too.
It's kind of funny, don't you think, that I get more email from my Econ professor than anyone else, combined? It's not that people don't love me enough to send me email or anything, she just sends out A LOT of emails.
I've been to every single class (even if I tend to get there a bit late) so far this quarter. Although, I have an inkling this might change tomorrow at 8 AM. NO, I MUST go. I have a midterm on next Wenesday. Oh I hate I hate I hate Econ.
But not as much as I hate French.
Tue Oct 21 2003 13:36 According to Alex:
*looks up succinct in the dictionary* Ok, I can deal with that... Though I'm sure many would object (my PS TA being one).
The same guy who did the lecture yesterday came to EU class today. It was interesting enough for a while, but there's only so much Regions and Cities a girl can take. I only got a 92 on my paper this time. I must be losing my touch. Still, I didn't know much about Regions and Cities to begin with, and if you had seen me writing the paper, you'd probably be amazed I even got a 92.
I only have to suffer through 2 more days of class, then I get to go home and see my kitty. I think I'd be a lot happier, in general, if instead of French and Econ I was taking two more classes as enjoyable as PS and EU. Maybe next quarter I'll be better off.
Rachel is too sore to go running today.
Tonic Tonic To--Oh, no, I'm only kidding! Doesn't mean I don't love you, Tonic ;)!
Wed Oct 22 2003 00:20 Missing my kitty:
Do you ever get out of the shower only to realize you forgot to shave one of you legs? Me, neither.
My book came today. I saw it, sitting on top of our mailbox when I came in from class. And now I see it, sitting on the shelf of Jennie's desk. Looking at me... wanting me to read it... She did not do a very good job of hiding it.
J'ai decide de ne parle qu'en francais jus-ce que j'ai fini mon papier. That would have been more sucessful if I lived somewhere like Canada. Or, you know, France.
Both of my sections are a complete waste of time. My PS TA and I are ideologically opposed. I can't wait to see what he gave my paper. I spent PS wondering why I woke up from my nap and Econ marveling at how badly I need a haircut (Friday). At least until the quiz, which I probably didn't do very well on, but I can't bring myself to care. As Sumana points out, beginning Econ is all based on the assumption that people behave rationally. I'd like to see how that applies to international politics. I have the same problem with all the theories in PS. When do people ever behave rationally, I'd like to know? So what is the point of making up theories when they will no doubt be proven wrong? The only one that I think is any good is institutionalism, and the is because the EU is the way to world peace. My TA, however, does not think this. Oh well, what does he know? Ok. I am now done complaining about school. For now.
IM from Jennie: can u see ur book now? :0
Today in PS the prof was asking if a book had come in to the bookstore yet. It hasn't, and probably won't for a while. I suggested, loudly (as it is a class of several hundred people), that people buy the book online. Everyone looked at me like I was nuts. Ok, this I am used to, but how did them come to that conclusion based on me buying books online? Is it really that unusual? Oh well. Who has the book, whenever one else doesn't, and not only that paid less than everyone else is going to? Oh, that would be me.
I have to run back on campus to turn in the thing I forgot I volunteered to turn in, then after I pack up I get to go home! Yay!
I saw Mrs Polite, Ms Richards, and Mme Bousquet today (She says hi to Susie). It was a bit odd to be back at BHS. Then Chris and I went to see Jen at Too Fat and went back to his place and played with Callie for a while. Now I must work on my French paper. And my application thingy. Grrr I don't want to.
Sat Oct 25 2003 19:32 Eating a pomegranite (yum--thanks, Mom!):
I've decided to cheat and let myself eat a bag of cheetos if I am a good girl and get everything done that needs to be done tomorrow. I have major self-discipline problems. Perhaps I should join the army or something. Or not. I don't know. I don't have issues NOT doing something, such as eating cheetos, or doing something simple, like excerising or going to class, once I make my mind up about it. It's just the writing papers thing that I have difficulty with. French in particular. Maybe I could get some sort of marketing research job where I am paid to come up with ways to procrastinate. THAT would be awesome.
I am now going to try to arrange my classes for next quarter so I don't have any in which I feel the need to a. put off papers til the last minute (like that'll happen), b. tell off my professor (and/or TA), and c. rail against all things French everytime I think of the class.
Sat Oct 25 2003 20:56 Haleluja!!!:
And my 0 button has gone funky. Typing "zero" is now much more of a pain than it used to be. I hope it doesn't die completely.
Working hard to earn those cheetos.
On the other hand, I am very confused. I used to be sure that I wanted an MA in History, but now International Affairs sounds mighty interesting. Oh well, I am going to a Grad School Fair on Tues (instead of studying for Econ> so that should help me along my path to self-discovery.
I know what you are thinking. "What does this have to do with French?" you are thinking of posting in the comments section. You're right. *Back to work.*
swishina (7:40:00 PM): john & susie?
On the way over to the library I saw large tents bedecked in blue and gold being deconstructed and thought to myself "There must have been some big event this weekend.
Oh, yeah. Homecoming." Go Bruins!!!
R/T airfare to London at STA is only $266. That's not even half a months rent.
Why does the weather have to be so nice during midterms week?
On the other hand, I don't know where this puts Susie. Perhaps she is older than she thinks, too. Or perhaps she is adopted. Or perhaps I am adopted.
Shout out to Jennie and her buddy Tim, who rock cuz they brought me IN-N-OUT!

Tue Oct 28 2003 20:09 When Midterms Win:
It's been unusually warm, and I can't help wonder about the cause and effect-ness of the weather and fire. Is it warm because of the magnitude of fires? I doubt. Or are there fires because of the warmth? I also doubt. Perhaps they are unrelated goods. What is the elasticity of the fire? If I buy more of Good X fire will I buy more or less or the same of Good Y warmness? Perhaps the warmness and fires are dynamic differentials; the warmness was declining in power, and saw that the fire was rising, and decided to attack while it still had a chance of winning. Thus, WWIII. But, no, that doesn't work, because we are merely deterring the lessons learned from WWI, and the situation is entirely different now. The warmness is Dadaiste, while the fire is more of a surrealiste. And how will this effect EU expansion? The EMU and the Euro? The CAP?
Oh, help.
Even more reason to be slightly apprehensive: the other night I had a dream I ran into Michelle Barr while traveling in Europe. She was with Georgianna Bowersox and Gabe Smith; I was with Dan Hunt. It's a very odd combination. Perhaps a subconscious longing for my high school roots, brought on by my recent visit to BHS. Freud would know. Maybe I should try automatic writing. Or not, since I seriously doubt I could do anything automatically these days besides sleep, eat, and check my email.
Leonard also answered my email. My zero key is still funky, though.
On the other news front, I am still safe from fire, and Marisa mentions that it has stopped raining ash, and that her bunny is excited to see me this weekend.
Additionally, it is confirmed that the Prisoner of Azkanban trailer will be shown at the Looney Tunes movie, which opens Nov 14. This isn't a scheduled home weekend, so I may have to do some rearranging. Date, Mom? (Yes, I'm going to see a movie just to see the trailer. You think that's wierd? Then you probably don't know me.)
Iwtoam (9:41:00 PM): Strange...
rachnmi (9:42:07 PM): so i guess it's lucky I hadn't done much on my paper...
Iwtoam (9:42:43 PM): See, it's God looking out for you
Thu Oct 30 2003 13:06 Done! Hurrah!:
I have done with midterms! Let the weekend ensue!
"Achoo!" "À te souhaits!" *I think I am allergic to French* On the bad news front, it turns out I am indeed the loser. Said book has come in, in quantity of 17, and we are no longer responsible for reading it. Oh well. I'm sure The World Since 1945 will come in handy for me someday...
Sat Nov 01 2003 17:08 Blue skies, LaLaLa:
The good news is, I got to see Laura and Marisa. I had a really fun halloween and I was a super-cool fairy. The highlight of the evening was an adorable owl, and there was also a witch. I got really excited and asked if she was from Harry Potter, but she didn't know what I said and had to consulte her parents before saying "Si". Just goes to show the universality of Harry Potter. (Ginny Ginny)
"I think I'm just not special" - me.
"You are special, Rachel. In soo many ways."- Laura
Why has the weekend o' fun gone by so quickly? On the brighter side, Phil and I had fun wandering Santa Monica last night, I took the bus for the first time, and I got an aplication for Express.
"You are so obsessed with movies." - me
"Because you don't know the meaning of obsession at all!" - Phil

Mon Nov 03 2003 10:02 Bad times ahead...:
Oh, help
This site was the ninth result for a yahoo search on "la vie en rose". How about that?
Yesterday I came to a realization. My Econ professor is exactly how I pictured Umbridge. Minus the bow and pink cardigan. And evilness. Though not the self importance.
Let's just HOPE that none of my professors/TAs run across my weblog. Or atleast certain ones of them. I always have to remember to not include my signature when I send them emails.
WHY?? WHY? WHY? I ask you, WHY? and HOW?
Wed Nov 05 2003 23:17 Can't get enough:
luvmeeshee (11:01:48 PM): me too, I am almost out of Ribena
rachnmi (11:02:26 PM): My roommate came back from sussex, and she brought me Nivea deodarant AND a Sophie Kinsella book
luvmeeshee (11:02:38 PM): OHHH
"Study! Write a paper!" - Jennie "I don't HAVE a paper!" - me "Write one anyway, for fun. Suffer with me!!" -Jennie
Thu Nov 06 2003 13:06 Tonks here I come!!:
My dreams are becoming too vivid. It's a sign of sleeping disorder. I'm sure I've got one--sometimes I sleep for 12 hours, yet one the weekdays I'm lucky to get 5 because I can't fall asleep. Anyways, today in PS the prof announced we would be getting back our papers and I turned to the girl next to me and said "Did'nt we already get them back?" Or maybe I am just psychic, because I remember thinking while walking to PS that I would have to do a really good job on the Cold War paper to make up for the B I got on this one.
Fri Nov 07 2003 11:03 I have a purring kitty on my lap right now.:
I think I am reverting to my vegetarian stage. Lately the idea of meat has been very unappealing.
"And that's not just my opinon, it's the truth!" -Mom
Happy Birthday to Jen!!! (though she never reads this...)
Playing hookey tomorrow and going back Tuesday. Spending my time sleeping, eating, and reading about the Cold War. Mostly the first two.

Tue Nov 11 2003 16:28 Oh blast...:
Tue Nov 11 2003 22:38 Quote from Jennie:
Related quote: "I can't believe we still have to wait 7 months!" - Me "Hey, remember when it was a year? We're making progress!" - Jen
Ma Prof: "Where is you paper?"
Me: *had heart attack*
Luckily, she belives I turned it in, so I just have to put another copy in her mail box tomorrow. Unfortunately, I still have the same problem as before: MY PAPER SUCKS! And now it's really going to stand out in her mind. Why oh why oh WHY do I hafta be soo bad at French? I mean, for the amount of time and effort I put into that 2 1/2 page dump I could've written a beautiful 10 pager History something.
On the bright side, my ))))0000 key has decided to fix itself.
WHAT?
Click, click, click: the sound of my keyboard typing away. See how studious I am?
Some people might not get my sense of humour. I'm ok with that.
(1) Roommate to find, Econ Final, Econ proj, Poly Sci final, Poly Sci paper (due tomorrow yeech!), French papier, French examen, Euro St research paper
(2) Econ quizzes, EU weeklies, sessions of registering for class
(3) Euro St lectures

I hate writing papers. No, not really. I just hate trying to get started. And who cares about the Cold War, anyway? It's OVER!! And, no, not ONLY because of Reagan.
"Well, that means your computer is @#$%! up"--Andy, after I described my symptoms. "Fabulous. EXACTLY what I wanted to hear!"
Update: "How do people like us get into UCLA?" - me. "It's magic." - Jennie
I'm going to go cry in a corner now. Except that I can't even do that, because I have to work on an assignment due in two hours.
Wed Nov 19 2003 16:50 Better (ish):
I hope I can put the application I am working on now on my credit card, too.
Fri Nov 21 2003 21:54 Found on Jennie's Xanga:
Me: Huh?
Rachel: I don't wanna write a paper.
Me: hah!
Rachel: *pulls blanket over head* *silence*
Sat Nov 22 2003 00:05 Since I can't figure out how to upload photos:
Weekend of research papers, feeling guilty because I should start French, and Grad School apps. And missing my kitty. Tuesday!
Sat Nov 22 2003 22:35 Another death in the apt:
Sun Nov 23 2003 00:53 Hello to everyone I don't know!:
"I guess I just bring out the bite in you"--Chris. "That could so easily be misconstrued."--me. "Not if you add more construe to it!"--Chris
"I LOVED it! I totally reminded me of England!"--me. "Especially that time when you ran into JKR and she said 'He's going to grow up and marry you! Isn't that what you want to hear?'"--Chris. "Yesss!"--me.
Mon Nov 24 2003 16:40 Word to the Wise:
And I'm SOO looking forward to the LONG drive up to SF tomorrow.
I wish I had brought something other to read than French. I thought that would mean I would be forced into reading French, but really it means I'm not reading anything. I shall try again, but OH, these books are impossible to read.
Fri Nov 28 2003 21:43 Mary Kay Open House Tomorrow!:
Sun Nov 30 2003 08:45 Back and safe in LA:
Mon Dec 01 2003 18:23 After years of seeking:
My schedule is all good, too. I just need to fix that little GE problem. After all, everything can't be perfect! And once I finish up this little Cal app I'll have the rest of the week free to work on more apps, and fail French.
Wed Dec 03 2003 12:08 Telemarketers get snotty!:
Sometimes I think I could live happily forever on a diet of Whole Foods salads.
Prof Rosecrance read the same excerpt from Ulysses that Mom read at Aunt Jeuney's funeral:It may be that the gulfs will wash us down;/ It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,/ And see the great Achilles, whom we knew./ Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'/ We are not now that strength which in old days/ Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,--/ One equal temper of heroic hearts,/ Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will/ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. I like him. That's why I'm taking another class with him next quarter. Am Foreign Policy. Should be lots of fun.
I don't think people realize how special the comments make me feel, for if they did they would surely leave more. Hint, hint.
Sat Dec 06 2003 04:36 Currently:
Thanks to all who bought into my shameless plug from comments. I appreciate it, really.
I know how you feel about me, but I'm asking you to put that aside for something more important.
Sun Dec 07 2003 04:35 Let's see if this works:
Sun Dec 07 2003 04:43 Apparantly not...:
The good thing about my niffty chart thing is it makes guiltiness even more effective. Instead of thinking vaguely *I should be studying* I can look at my chart and think *I REALLY SHOULD be reading for my EU reserch paper*.
Which is what I am doing right now. This book, Reluctant Europeans has a coin on the cover with: a two sided face, I'm inferring from the hideousness is supposed to be Margaret Thatcher, "Neither one thing nor the other" around the circumfrence, and "*Wait and see*I'm not ruling it in & I'm not ruling it out*In, out shake it all about*" beneath. Very humourous, very apt, if you ask me.
This time tomorrow I'm going to be (for better or for worse) and hour into my econ final. I'm also going to start working. And hopefully by office hours on Tuesday, I'll have some semblense of a rough draft of my French paper.
Sun Dec 07 2003 16:31 <--- Time stamp is whackoo:
Finals have never been this stressful. EVER.
Gets out carton of Ben and Jerry's to drown sorrows in.
Bed, then up at *empties kleenex box* 7 to continue studying.
Lets see, what's on my to do list: Fail Econ (check) Go insane (check) Write suberbly crappy French paper (IP) Fail Poli Sci Find someone willing take over my lease (riiight)Educate the masses on the important of the role of the US in Britain's descison to abstain from early European integration (oh, yeah)
crisbcreme (10:30:33 PM): you'll survive crisbcreme (10:30:56 PM): cause if you don't, then you won't know what'll happen to Harry Potter rachnmi (10:31:17 PM): oh, gosh, you're right crisbcreme (10:31:20 PM): see rachnmi (10:31:22 PM): I WILL survive crisbcreme (10:31:29 PM): next movie, next book, crisbcreme (10:31:32 PM): harry and you ginny ginny
For the record, I *do* like school. I just don't like finals!

Wed Dec 10 2003 02:13 Courtesy of Chris:
Twas the night before finals and all through the college the students were praying for last minute knowledge Most were quite sleepy but none touched their beds while visions of essays danced in their heads Out in the taverns a few were still drinking and hoping that liquor would loosen their thinking In my own apartment I had been pacing And dreading exams I soon would be facing My roomate was speechless His nose in his books and my comments to him Drew unfriendly looks I drained all the coffee And brewed a new pot No longer caring That my nerves were shot I stared at my notes but my thoughts were muddy my mind went ablur and I just couldn't study "some pizza might help" i said with a shiver but each place i called refused to deliver I'd nearly concluded that life was too cruel When futures depend on grades had in school when all of a sudden our door opened wide and Patron Saint "Put it off" ambled inside His spirit was careless his manner was mellow when all of a sudden he started to bellow: "What kind of student would make such a fuss to toss back at teachers what they tossed at us?" "On cliff notes! On crib notes! On last year's exams! On Wingit and Slingit and last minute crams!" His message delivered, he vanished from sight But we hear him laughing outside in the night Your teachers have pegged you So just do your best Happy Finals to all! And to all a good test!
Wed Dec 10 2003 19:03 (Is really Thurs 3:30 PM):
Now must go integrate Europe.

Thu Dec 11 2003 15:25 Fri 11:52 AM:
I'm... almost... done...
What is the fate of this girl, the stupidest idiot on the planet? We all wait, with baited breath...
Found susie's black music notebook, which is good because it has all the good songs in it. Yay for Christmas traditions of singing and making cookies and dropping them and gretel eating them... so it goes.
Since some people (Alyson) expressed interest, my scedule for next quarter is as of yet undecided. Two defs are celtic mythology and american foreign diplomacy, oceanography is a possibility, and then something else which has yet to be determined. Also, I got an email from my ES professor, which said nothing, but very nicely, so I am taking that as a good sign.
Thu Dec 18 2003 16:43 10 things NOT to do in Church:
1. Talk loudly about how much you loved "Love, Actually."
2. Give a standing ovation after a spiritual number, stomping your feet and yelling "Bravo! Encore!"
3. During testimonies, ask loudly, "Who is this Joseph Smith guy everyone keeps talking about?"
4. Gobble up the entire tray of sacremental bread, then yell "what?" at everyone who turns to stare.
5. Wear an "I am the face of pro-choice America" T-shirt to homemaking meeting.
6. When people start asking "So... when are you getting married?" say, "As soon as same sex marriages are made legal."
7. Bring a Starbucks gift card to the Christmas exchange.
8. Read a Nora Roberts book during Sunday School, then show the steamiest passage to everyone who asks what you are reading.
9. Announce you are bringing a non-member friend to the ward pot luck, then show up with your dog.
10. Go around asking the mother of every missionary when their son is coming home, and when they answer, say, "When should we start planning the wedding?"
Now I'm going to hop into the shower to be clean for when my sissy arrives!
Wed Dec 24 2003 12:18 Happy Christmas Eve, All!:
