I can't believe I am admitting this. Even to myself.

I have serious guilt issues getting rid of gifts and things people made for me. Especially mom. I know I do. I asked Mom to make me a "church" dress once. She made me a perfectly nice dress that doesn't fit me well and I don't like it. I don't like it!! It wasn't what I wanted. I've worn it maybe three times and it is still hanging in my closet.

Maybe I will feel better now. But I don't think I'll be getting rid of the dress.

The rule -- if you don't wear it or haven't worn it for about a year -- get rid of it. I'm still lerning that rule.

I agree, I just got rid of a bunch of my clothes. However, I don't know if I would get rid of anything your mom made?! Everytime you see it you are able to think about her and her funny quirks or how crafty your mom is or silly stories like that. Gifts from other people, now that's ok.

if we kept everything my mom made... but susie I can't believe you are keeping a dress you hate but threw out pages of scrapbooks. I suppose guilt is inexplicable. Once I thought of some special chamomille flowers mom bought to make tea with and I never made it for her, the package was still unopened when I left the house. I always just used bags because it was easier. I felt so guilty I almost cried.

I don't have trouble getting rid of clothes in general and i've gotten rid of lots of clothes she made. Maybe because I asked her to make this dress? Who knows.If I had an extremely similar dress Mom made using the same pictures I wouldn't feel guilty about getting rid of one of them. =P

So take a picture of the dress and give it to Salvation Army. The memory, without the possession.

Rachel: Susie only threw out scrapbook pages that are duplicates of the ones in her book, or are those stupid pages of primary activities/wedding announcements of people we don't know. I know. I went through the pile personally. I took out all the pages that had pictures of Kyle and Eric posing as kids in painter's costumes, and made up how Susie knows the people she swears she doesn't. Good times.
