Roy's Postcards: 1984/02/08

Inscription:

Leonard came to my work today and we came home on the bus, stopping at the La Brea Tar Pits and visiting the Page Museum. Leonard loves the museum, even if it's just to walk through and look at a couple of exhibits and learn a couple of new things. This Time Ribbon has always intrigued me and, of course, Leonard really likes the dinosaurs on it.

Postcard back:

From the origin of the earth to man in space, the history of the earth and the evolution of life are illustrated in this time chart. The amount of item [sic] depicted is so great that the record at Rancho La Brea began one-hundredth of an inch from the end of the ribbon.

Leonard's comments:

Time Ribbon! In color! The astronaut stepping outside the ribbon, into the space that spawned the ribbon, is a really nice touch.

I never realized this before, but I guess my dad took the bus to work every day. Until March 1986 we only had one car (the Datsun), and my mother needed it to run errands.
