There was a book a while back called The Bible Code which purported to find hidden messages in the Old Testament. My 1999 program, The Arbitrary Text Code, brings the excitement of The Bible Code to whatever large chunk of text you happen to have lying around. It works, but not very well, and it's slow. I hereby release the code into the public domain, for all the good that will do you.

• codify turns a piece of text into an unbroken string of capital letters.
• tatc finds any substring in that long string of capital letters, even if the substring isn't there to begin with.
