We saw many of these smoke treesandas we came across the desert from California to Phoenix, Arizona. The desert was quite beautiful, though seemingly endless.

SMOKE TREES IN A DESERT WASH
The blue-gray Smoke Tree grows only in desert washes, where its roots reach sixty or seventy feet into damp earth. It has no leaves, but its myriads of spines at a distance, resemble a puff of smoke.
Leonard's comments:
Remember, it could always be worse. You could be a smoke tree.
